Category:

Del Maguey Wild Tepextate is made from one of the most dramatically growing wild agaves — Tepextate (Agave marmorata), a plant with broad twisted leaves eight to ten inches wide that grows at high altitude almost vertically out of the sides of rock faces in mountainous terrain, producing a mezcal with a distinctly lighter body and bright candied fruit character that contrasts sharply with earthier Espadin expressions. The growing conditions of Tepextate — near-vertical, wedged into rocks at elevation, exposed to extreme temperature variation — stress the plant in ways that cultivated agave never experiences, concentrating particular flavor compounds. The result is a mezcal with a bright, candied fruit nose and a sweetness that carries through the palate with passion fruit, marzipan, and honeysuckle floral notes — lighter, more aromatic, and more delicate than most wild agave mezcals. Tepextate takes 20–25 years to mature and cannot be cultivated, making production volumes extremely limited.Tasting Notes
Nose: Bright candied fruit — banana taffy and spun sugar from the high-altitude rock-growing conditions
Palate: Passion fruit and marzipan sweetness with a light cinnamon note of organic Mexican sugar and floral honeysuckle
Finish: Light and aromatic with floral persistence
