Category:

Macurichos Mezcal Ancestral Arroqueno is a wild-varietal ancestral-method mezcal from Gonzalo Martinez in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca — one of only a handful of distillers still producing using ancestral methods, including clay pot stills. “Ancestral” in the official mezcal classification is the most traditional production method tier, more restrictive than artesanal. Arroqueno (Agave americana var. oaxacensis) is a large, slow-maturing wild Oaxacan agave taking 15–20+ years to mature.Macurichos is dedicated to the protection of cultural tradition and agricultural heritage in Santiago Matatlán, the iconic mezcal production community. Gonzalo and his brothers cultivate diverse fields of agave — planting from seed and reforesting diminishing wild populations — with exclusively organic farming. The clay pot still distillation that defines the ancestral classification produces a distinctly textured, mineral-driven mezcal that copper pot stills cannot replicate.Specs
